If you don’t have dreams, they can’t come true

The dream of building a new health post for the local communities in this area first began to take shape back in early 2016. It started, as many good things do, with a visit. In the new year, Himalayan Quests hosted us as a family for a rural homestay in the village Melissa had spent time in a part of her study abroad programme.  A programme cut short by the devastating 2015 earthquake.

Working in medicine Barbara and I were naturally curious about the healthcare available to people living in Nepal’s rural hills. Our visit to the small, ageing health post left a lasting impression. It was here, amidst the warmth of the villagers’ welcome and the connections formed, that the seed of a dream was planted, the dream of building something better.

Nearly ten years on, that seed has grown into reality. To see this dream finally come true, after so many years of hope, planning, perseverance and of course, fundraising, makes its realisation all the more meaningful.

The joy and gratitude of the health workers and community members is palpable in this video. This project stands as a true collaboration between our family and donors, our local partner, Himalayan Quests Foundation, the rural municipality, the health providers and local community members. They say it takes a village, and there’s so much truth in that. Together, we’ll turn a shared dream into something that will serve generations to come.
