School #4: Shree Saraswoti Basic School, Makawanpur

From Churiyamai School, we climbed up a beautiful wooded ridge along a newly created dirt track to a small village, home to the second school, Shree Saraswoti Basic School, and another warm welcome and lots of excited children.

Once again a beautiful new classroom building stood proud in the school grounds, this time home to 35 children in classes 1 & 2.

We were given a tour of each class and many of the children sang and danced for us, to show their appreciation.

It wasn’t only the children who showed how grateful they were, the teachers, School Management Committee and Parent Teacher Association representatives also showed their appreciation, by presenting us with garlands, kuttas (scarves), a certificate of appreciation and placing tikkas or traditional blessings on our heads.

After presenting the Principal with some sports equipment for the school and a final photo session with everyone outside the new classrooms, we headed back down the hill to Hetauda Bazaar for a quick and very delicious daal that lunch and then on to the third and final school, Shree Biswa Jyoti Basic School.

A Himalayan thank you to everyone involved with this project.  To Hari Bhusal, who coordinated this project on our behalf.  Ravindran Kumal, Save the Date Programme Coordinator at Restless Development for working closely with the schools and helping them get all the necessary documents and financial reports to us.  The head teacher and School Management Committee members, but most of all the Wishner Family, collectively know as the Wishner5 and all their supporters for funding this new classroom building.  You have touched the lives of many and have created an amazing legacy for years to come.
